Fast-growing and tall the Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) tree bears many large, strongly scented, white-petaled flowers with a variety of inner colours, generally yellow-green.
Freshly picked, Ylang Ylang flowers are steam and water distilled to produce an oil that is pale yellow to orange-brown in colour. Its rich base notes are capable of increasing libido and arousing passion and creativity in the coldest of hearts. The sweet blossoms are spread on the bed of newlyweds in Indonesia to celebrate the occasion.
Traditionally used in aromatherapy to assist in the temporary relief of:
- Mild anxiety and stress
- Muscular aches and pains
- It is also reputed to be helpful as an aphrodisiac
Is Ylang Ylang safe to use for infants?
It's not recommended to use Ylang Ylang for infants, however there are many essential oils that are safe to use for infants, you can see the full list here.
Is Ylang Ylang safe to use during pregnancy?
Yes, 3 drops of Ylang Ylang may be vaporised or added to a weekly bath after the first trimester
Is Ylang Ylang safe to use on my skin?
Yes, Ylang Ylang may be massaged onto the skin once diluted in carrier oil. To create a massage blend, add 6 drops of Ylang Ylang into 12ml of massage base oil.
