Aromatherapy is very personal and that is why we all respond differently to different aromas depending on likes and dislikes and even memory. Yet, there is no question the use of pure essential oils work in different ways to deliver therapeutic effects. They alter our emotions and moods when inhaled through the nasal passages and have a direct effect on our body tissues and organs when massaged onto the skin. Because oils have different characteristics some may be uplifting, some soothing while others stimulating.
In Essence recommends a good way to start is by choosing three oils. Smell the oils individually and then together and draw on your memory and intuition to aid your selection. And then build up your repertoire. Use strong oils sparingly and your favourite ones the most.
